Complete refit of the BIJIN yacht: new look, new life

The yacht Bijin recently underwent an ambitious refit carried out by the Monaco Marine team in La Seyne-sur-Mer. For seven months, the vessel took a major exterior paint job, a complete transformation of the interior spaces and an optimisation of the equipment, all in close collaboration with the owners, the owners’ designers, Hot Lab and the crew.

Exterior paintwork

The yacht's hull underwent a complete colour change, from her original Oyster White to Mattherhorn White, from grey to Jet Black, and the addition of a boot stripe in Sunfast Red. The painting process followed a rigorous cycle: treatment of corrosion, sandblasting, application of epoxy primers, multiple coatings, then an Awl-Grip base coat + clear coat system with intermediate sanding for a perfectly smooth, high-gloss finish.

'We didn't come across any major corrosion-related surprises, which meant that we were able to keep to the planned schedule for the paintwork,' explains Augustin Fabre, Project Manager at Monaco Marine.

"Les propriétaires souhaitaient faire appel à la même équipe de peintres qui avait travaillé sur M/Y Adventure et qui avait été impressionnée par leur performance après avoir visité le yacht au Monaco Yacht Show l'année dernière.

Interior refit and design makeover

The yacht's interior has been completely revamped, with no change to volumes but with a remarkable aesthetic transformation:

  • Salon and Dining Area: full replacement of carpets, curtains, sofas, lamps and loose furniture.
  • Master cabin: complete renovation including headboard, bedside table, bed base and ventilation.
  • Guest cabins: refurbished according to the owners' and Hot Lab’s guidelines based on the Master cabin.
  • Upper deck area (interior): full replacement of carpets, curtains, sofas, lamps and loose furniture.
  • Bathrooms: smoked matt shower glass, new dressing, smoked matt doors, new lamps
  • Beach club: teak floor, fitness area with addition of a treadmill, spinning bike, gym gear, both functionally and aesthetically redesigned.
  • Galley: upgrade and replacement of a few appliances.
  • New handles and taps throughout.
  • New awnings.
  • New exterior cushions and sunpads.
  • Complete upgrade of the AV/IT system and related domotics.
  • New double Starlink system and update of the bridge systems.
  • Engine room fully updated

"For the interior design, we worked from the guidelines given by the owners and their designers. We only intervened on the technical side to provide the plans and coordinate the teams."

Collaboration and project management

This project, initially scheduled for six months, was extended by one month following the addition of interior work, for a total of 7 months of refit work.

"The daily presence of the crew on board was a real plus: it enabled us to get a swift feedback and to work in a truly collaborative way."

The project was supervised by Augustin Fabre, project manager at Monaco Marine, with rigour and responsiveness. The end result lives up to expectations, offering Bijin a new visual identity and optimised functionality, in compliance with the most demanding standards.
